Demand is growing for fuel conversion from coal to gas in utility, industrial, and institutional boilers to comply with stringent new standards for carbon pollution under the EPA’s Clean Power Plan. Forney Field Services can deliver the comprehensive integration of new combustion components and associated equipment required for this challenging change in combustion technology. Forney’s world-wide network of seasoned service personnel will implement a range of solutions and support for your burners, igniters, flame detectors, and scanning systems, whether supplied by Forney or by others, to make coal-to-gas conversion work for you.
For a coal-to-gas fuel conversion of a Foster Wheeler process steam boiler at a major grain-processing plant in the Midwest U.S., Forney supplied and commissioned four variable flame profile (VFP) gas burners. The FW boiler is an opposed-fire design with one burner located at each of two levels on the front and rear walls.
The Forney VFP gas burner is ideally suited for short furnace applications like this boiler. Our site technician and engineering department worked together to identify installation issues such as the boiler windbox sizing and associated welding modifications needed to ensure successful commissioning of the burners on schedule in late 2014.
With over 60 sales representatives around the world, Forney is a local service provider in over 30 countries. That ensures that Forney Field Services can quickly get your plant equipment and processes up and running, optimizing your plant’s profitability through safe and efficient management of all of your service needs. We understand that you need immediate, experienced combustion start-up, commissioning, and troubleshooting support for all Forney products. Our local presence plays a key role in delivering prompt service to maximize product performance.
We routinely service a complete array of oil and gas igniters, High Energy Spark Igniters (HESIs), and oil and gas burners. We supply and service complete duct-burner systems used for heating combustion turbine (CT) exhaust gases and SCR reheat applications. Both main gas and igniter (gas or oil) valve skids and, for coal-fired plants, coal pre-ignition detection systems (CPDSs) are all well within our scope of supply and service.
Forney service technicians apply our unparalleled burner management system and process control expertise to serve all of your control needs. Do you require PLC design modifications? Troubleshooting? We do them for all major brands, including Allen-Bradley, Siemens, GE, Modicon and all data highway communications. We regularly support NFPA compliance reviews and upgrades in addition to safety controls for unique applications such as fire safety training and operations mock-ups.
You can rely on Forney Field Services for full outage and engineering support, of course, but a maintenance contract for your facility tailored to your needs can help to keep your operations trouble-free and profitable long-term. These preventive maintenance (PM) and service contracts may include annual tuning of igniters and detectors/scanners, quarterly inspections of complete duct-burner systems and other regular support for your operations. Comprehensive operations and service training, customized for your requirements, can be provided at your site or at our factory. Under a Forney service contract, you will receive discounted rates for our field service and spare parts in addition to peace of mind.
